Guerrero’s performance of the Prelude, Chorale, and Fugue was described as “a brilliant and fully understood interpretation”; this work became a staple of his repertoire in the years to come. As a teacher of composition, Guerrero is repeatedly acknowledged by his contemporaries in Chile. In this period he also evidently began teaching piano performance, which became the dominant specialty of his later career in Canada. ”35 Guerrero always resisted the idea of a method or system of teaching; Leng’s remark may have simply meant that he followed no standard pedagogical convention.
A copy of Cuatro preludios para piano, a short published work by Leng, was inscribed by the composer as follows: “To my dear brother Alberto García Guerrero, affectionately, A. ”66 Leng and Santa Cruz both made periodic tours to North America for professional meetings and performances, and apparently visited Guerrero in Toronto during their travels.
