The curriculum is also partly determined by the needs of local industry and commerce and the job opportunities they offer. Thus, although certain qualifications required by major industries and business occupations will be found in nearly all non-specialist colleges, the FE curriculum in a northern town that retains its heavy industry will obviously have a different emphasis to that of a college serving a west country holiday resort or a high-tech area in the south.
