Forged to perfection as a child, he used this strategy all his life, intellectually. Seeger also suggested that his susceptibility to being beaten by bullies as a child contributed to his cultivation of nonviolence. This was supported by the ethics he learned from his Unitarian parents who supported the Christian ethos of love, kindness, and chivalry. Seeger also inherited from his parents a respect for the "good life," being monied, and occupying a certain position in the world.
