To progress through the maze of trails, try going right on Straley or Stearn to Lower Asian Way, then stay with it as it heads south making little forays aside to points of interest. Finally, after passing a wide meadow with a large rock, an erratic left by the receding glaciers, you come to “A Walk in the Woods” trail, a 20-minute loop through relatively undisturbed second-growth forest, with explanatory signs along the way. At the end of the “Walk” you find yourself on the Upper Asian Way, heading north.

Very soon you come to Sword Fern Trail, which, with a few interruptions, goes clear across Pacific Spirit Regional Park. Turn left, then, on Sword Fern and stay with it as it crosses Powerline and Council Trails and then is absorbed temporarily by Salish, which you follow to West 16th Avenue. Now, though you might jog left here to regain Sword Fern, which continues along the margin of the forest, your best plan is to stay with Salish as it winds its way towards University Boulevard, on the far side of which it continues, to be reunited with Sword Fern a little short of Chancellor Boulevard.
